Linda & Barry’s Highland Fling for MAAC 25for25 appeal

May 19, 2016

April saw the first event in our 25for25 fundraising campaign for Midlands Air Ambulance when our accounts lady Linda McAllister and husband Barry walked the 100 mile West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William.

The walk took 7 days, beginning on the outskirts of Glasgow and involved an average of 15 knee breaking miles a day. The walk takes in spectacular scenery including Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor and the aptly named Devils Staircase.

They had glorious weather, if anything too hot for walking. Linda said by Day 6 she was questioning her sanity. Barry must be made of sterner stuff as she said he didn’t stop smiling the whole way – but that maybe due to the restorative ale he knew was waiting for him at the end of each day! Linda said the best part for her was the hot bath at the end of Day 5!!

Barry said they met walkers from all over the world including New Zealand and USA, so spread details of the wonderful work the Air Ambulance do far & wide.

On completion of the walk Barry said he would do it every year if he could. Linda was rumoured to have said ‘never again’ but we have a feeling she’ll be back!!

Director Kay Gill said ‘we are so incredibly proud of Linda and Barry’s amazing achievement. They have raised a wonderful total of £1,068.60 towards the life saving work of Midlands Air Ambulance’.
